Molly's Refrigerator

Molly's kitchen is almost complete with the addition of her refrigerator. Like her stove, the refrigerator is made from another photo archive box. 

To create the door, I clipped the top and bottom corner on the edge along one long side of the box lid. I glued the small strip to the long side of the box so the door would open and close. 

Shelves were create using pieces of cardboard that were the depth of the box.  Each piece of cardboard had a little overlap, longer than the width of the door. I folded the overlap down on each end and glued it in place on the sides of the box, making sure it was straight.  

All that was necessary to complete Molly's wonderful refrigerator was a door handle. The handle was created out of ribbon and held on by brads. It is a simple design, but for a child with an imagination, it fit the bill perfectly.

A Kitchen Table for Your AG Doll

Making a child-friendly table for an American Girl doll is as easy as 1,2,3! If you check out the directions for a simple stove and a simple refrigerator, you will find an easy, inexpensive kitchen for your child's 18-inch world. 

A simple table that accompanies the stove is very simple. Michael's sells photo archive boxes, often for less than $2.00! To make the table, simply take the lid off of the box, turn the bottom of the box on its side and center the lid on the top of it. Glue it into place and you have a table. I chose one with a decorated top, but you could use a plain box and decorate it yourself! 

How it all began...

Last year, my eight year old granddaughter came to spend a year with me. On Christmas, her great-aunt, my sister, gave her an American Girl doll, Molly, for Christmas. The first thing Ari did was pour over the American Girl order catalog, fascinated with what she found there...but unable to afford everything she wished she had. Together, we began exploring ways to make her life with Molly more complete. I now have three granddaughters, between the ages of 8 and 9, that have their own American Girl dolls. This year, for Christmas, I am on a quest to make them a lot of fun accessories to use with their dolls. Then I started to think, if I need to do this, so would others. I thought about how much fun it would be to share my ideas and creations with others...and here it is, all in an 18-inch world!
